Abstract
Purpose: Tuberculosis in eye has diverse presentations leading to difficulty & delay in diagnosis resulting in loss of vision. We conducted this study to estimate the magnitude of ocular tuberculosis along-with its socio-demographic relationships.
Materials & Methods: A cross sectional observational study conducted over a period of one year on 170 new case of tuberculosis .
Results: mean age 35.65 with male predominance mostly educated upto secondary level & semiskilled or unskilled worker. Ocular tuberculosis was found among 12 patients with 7.1 % proportion among all types of tuberculosis patients nearly half of them belong to age group of 21-30 years without any sex predilection.4 patients had choroidal tuberculoma & tubercles, 2 had Eales disease, 4 had choroiditis & 2 had anterior/ intermediate uveitis.
Conclusion: Baseline comprehensive ophthalmic examination should to be done in all tuberculosis patients to detect & adequate treatment of co-existing ocular tuberculosis.
