Abstract
AIM: To analyse intraoperative and postoperative complications of cataract surgery in pseudoexfoliation syndrome
METHODS: study included 50 cataract patients with pseudoexfoliation who underwent
Small Incision cataract surgery after complete ophthalmological evaluation from January 2019- jan 2020.Patient’s age, vision,IOP,fundus, surgical complications were noted.
RESULTS: Mean age was 64.76±5years.Poor pupil dilatation in 40(80%) ,glaucoma in 11(22%) cases were noted.
Intraoperative complications were posterior capsular tear with vitreous loss(4%),zonular dialysis(2%),iridodialysis(2%),iris hooks in(2%),Iris claw iol in (4%)cases were used.
Postoperative complications were corneal stromal oedema(18%),microcystic oedema(6%),hyphema(2%)
CONCLUSION: Cataractsurgery in Pseudoexfoliation syndrome has higher incidence of surgical complications due to risk factors like poor pupillary dilatation, glaucoma, weak zonules.A complete preoperative workup helps in reducing surgical complications.
