Abstract

Purpose: To compare the efficacy of 2.0% rebamipide and 0.05% cyclosporine eye drops in patients with dry eyes. Methods: 80 patients with DED were randomized into two groups and were treated for dry eye (Group A- 2.0% rebamipide plus 0.5% carboxymethylcellulose, Group B-0.05% cyclosporine plus 0.5% carboxymethylcellulose). The patients were examined on day 0, 4 weeks, 8 weeks and 12 weeks of treatment for changes in TBUT, Schirmer’s test and OSDI questionnaire.

Results: The mean improvement in OSDI score in group A was from 30.05 to 18.91 and in 28.23 to 19.13 in group B, The improvement in TBUT and Schirmer’s tests were also statistically significant ( p <0.05 ) Conclusion: The study concluded that the improvement of subjective symptoms and objective signs of DED and compliance were better in group A.
