Abstract
Congenital eyelid coloboma is an uncommon, unilateral or bilateral, partial or full-thickness eyelid defect.Large defects require early surgical intervention aimed at protecting the ocular surface & preventing sight threatening corneal complications.Surgical reconstruction of eyelid coloboma always represents a challenge. The disadvantage of eyelid sharing procedures include extended occlusion of eye, need for second surgery & risk of amblyopia in children. We describe a novel technique for management of large nasal coloboma of upper eyelid which is a single stage procedure. This technique combines a horizontal tarsoconjunctival transposition flap for posterior lamella & skin graft for anterior lamella. It is used for reconstruction of upto 50%-60% of upperlid defects when there is insufficient laxity of adjacent tissue to mobilize myocutaneous flaps & also resulted in rapid rehabilitation & satisfying cosmesis.Description of upperlid coloboma repair by this technique are limited.
