Abstract

Large angle strabismus is fairly common in our country compared to western countries. To measure an angle larger than 50 prisms one has to use two prisms on each eye. It often becomes difficult to hold the two prisms and an extra hand is needed. We present a new device to hold the two prism in a holder which patient can hold.

A single plate has two prism holders mounted on it horizontally. The holders can hold the prism vertically and horizontally. One of the holders has been kept on a moving plate so it can be moved inward or outward depending on whether the patient has esotropia or exotropia. The prisms snuggly fit in the flexible holders and don’t fall off

A consecutive series of 100 patients were measured with prisms using this device. The children above 10 years of age were capable of holding the PHD making the examiner’s both the hands free.

The device is simple and easy solution to an extra assistant for measuring large angle strabismus where two prisms are need to be held
