Abstract
In ocular tumors, a biopsy is essential for histopathological confirmation and diagnosis. The role of biopsy in ocular tumors can be diagnostic or therapeutic. As a clinician, it is necessary to identify the red flags in ocular tumors and the need for biopsy. There are different types of biopsies; an indication of each depends upon the provisional clinical diagnosis. The types of biopsies include shave, punch, incision, and excision biopsy. Wide excision with margin clearance and frozen section is a widely used standard technique for malignant tumors. Any tissue sample obtained requires adequate processing and appropriate transportation. Close collaboration and communication between the ophthalmic surgeon and ocular pathologist leads way to accurate reporting and diagnosis. In this video, we describe the indications, types, and techniques for performing a biopsy in ocular neoplasms involving eyelid, conjunctiva, orbit, and intraocular.
