Abstract
Methods: This prospective study was done from Oct 2019 to March 2020. Patients with cataract undergoing SICS by residents were included and randomly divided into 2 groups. Keeping all other steps same, nucleus delivery was done using wire vectis in group 1 and by viscoexpression in group 2. Ease of nucleus delivery, intraoperative complications, postoperative visual outcome and endothelial cell count were compared.
Results: 58 patients, 29 in each group were included. Nucleus delivery was difficult in 5 patients (17.24%) in group 1 and 3 patients (10.34%) in group 2. 4 patients (13.79%) in group 1 and 2 (6.9%) in group 2 had intraoperative complications. Postoperative visual outcome and endothelial cell count were similar.
Conclusion: Nucleus delivery by viscoexpression is easier to learn for residents and has lesser intraoperative complications compared to wire vectis.
