Abstract
Its an observational study involving 120 patients both female and male who underwent phacoemulsification ( intracameral lidocaine) of age group between 40-65 years. BP and Heart rate were recorded pre operative and intraoperative.
Results :
Almost 90 percent of the female patients were cooperative during the topical phacoemulsification as compared to about 92 percent of male patients who were also cooperative during the surgery. It is a known fact that female have more pain receptors than males but females are able to tolerate pain more easily due to presence of female hormone Estrogen, which dampens the activity of pain receptor thus helping them to tolerate higher levels of pain . Also there is role of events like pregnancy, labour pains and monthly menstrual cycles where again Estrogen plays an important role.
Conclusion:
Both female and male have almost same intensity of pain even though female pain receptors being higher, the role of Estrogen needs more studies
