Abstract
Materials and methods: In a cohort study between 2 groups, 50 in each group, surgically induced astigmatism(SIA) and post-operative visual outcome is compared between patients in whom foldable IOL and rigid IOL has been implanted.
Results: Mean surgically induced astigmatism on 1st week, 2nd week and 2nd month in group with rigid IOL was 0.53±0.29 on, and that in foldable IOL group was 0.53±0.34, 0.55±0.34 and 0.56±0.35 and was not statistically significant. Visual acuity postoperatively was also not statistically significant among the two groups
Conclusion: Surgically induced astigmatism and post-operative visual outcome in patients having rigid IOL implantation is comparable, if not better than, in patients with foldable IOL implantation. Rigid IOL can be used as cost effective alternative in poor.
