FP0504 : SAFETY GOGGLES ESSENTIAL IN FARMING COMMUNITY TO PROTECT THE EYES

Abstract
While a 27 year old man was repairing farm machinery, a metal piece entered his left eye, leading to loss of vision to PL+, PR accurate. He had a corneal tear from 7o’clock at the limbus, curving across the center of the cornea.The lens was ruptured with cortical matter in the AC. Under informed consent and COVID consent, the corneal tear was repaired and the cortical matter was aspirated, AC was formed with air. Intra-vitreal injection of ceftazidime and vancomycin was given. Post-operatively, fortified Ceftazidime and Vancomycin was given 2 hourly, Homatropine was given BD. His vision was limited to hand movements in the left eye after 1 week. X-Ray, CT and ultrasound showed retained Intraocular metallic foreign body and membranes in vitreous. For foreign body removal the patient was referred to retina unit. Use of inexpensive protective glasses during field work can easily prevent ophthalmic morbidity due to trauma during field work.
