Abstract
A retrospective study of 8 months before & 8 months after the alcohol ban was conducted, and 390 cases (240 before and 150 after) were reported. A comprehensive ophthalmic examination and breath analyzer for the detection of alcohol intoxication was done. Findings: Almost 40% of cases are in the age group of 20-40 yrs and 65% of cases are due to two-wheeler accidents. Alcohol ban has resulted in a sharp decrease in the number of cases of ocular trauma in North Bihar. There is a decrease in SCH from135 to 77, corneal perforation from 47 to 25, there was a significant reduction in VH and IOFB reported. Conclusion: The main cause of RTA ocular trauma is drink and drive leading significant blindness so, there must be a campaign to strictly impose a ban on it.
