Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To study association between meibomian gland dysfunction and triglyceride & total cholesterol

METHOD: An observational cross- sectional study was done,94 MGD cases aged 18-55yrs were undertaken & were diagnosed on the basis of OSDI questionnaire, lid features, meibum quality & expressibility, fluorescein staining .Staging was done as per International workshop on MGD&management,2011 and eye with more severity of MGD was included in study. The fasting TC& TG was done for MGD pts and age&sex matched controls without MGD &their TC &TG were compared

RESULTS: The level of TC>=200mg/dl was more in the cases as compared to controls and was statistically significant (p=0.003) & the level of TG>=150mg/dl, was also more in cases than controls & was statistically significant(p=0.004)

CONCLUSION: The ophthalmologists play an important role in diagnosing the lipid levels in MGD patients which is of great help in diagnosing various CVS disease of which raised TC&TG is the cause
