Abstract
Aim- To determine the prevalence and epidemiological pattern of diabetic retinopathy in tribal and non-tribal population of Jharkhand. Materials and methods- Prospective study done on 184 diagnosed diabetic patients from each group of tribal and non-tribal population between January 2019 to January 2020 in tertiary care centre.Patients were screened for diabetic retinopathy and were categorized as mild,moderate and severe.Detailed eye examination including best corrected visual acuity, fundus examination with direct and indirect ophthalmoscope,optical coherence tomography,fundus photography were done.Result-The overall prevalence of diabetic retinopathy in this study was 11.41%(42) ,with 9.78%(18) prevalence in tribal and 13.04%(24) in non-tribal population. Age group between 40-60 years and males were predominantly affected.Conclusion- Prevalence of DR is less in tribals as compared to non-tribals.Genetic predisposition,life style and food habits are main determining factors.
