Abstract
Eye camps serves as a means for screening, diagnosis, medical and surgical management of common eye ailments in the remote areas.. A retrospective observational study over a period of 3 decades was conducted in tertiary care eye hospital, total 380 eye camps were held during 1984- 2018 over a period of 34 years. A total of 213342 patients were screened, 43927 admitted and 36382 surgeries done. Cataract surgery evolved from ICCE to ICCE with ACIOL to microsurgery with PCIOL with proper sterilization. Highest peak was in 1992 with 32 camps, 22044 patients screened and 4101 were operated while in 2012 only 5 camps were held 1419 patients were screened and 60 were operated. Thereafter only screening camps were started, Camps altogether were stopped after 2015 .Eye camps in prosperous states have become negligible but India still relies heavily on screening eye camps to reach rural populations in spite of investments in setting up quality infrastructure in many states.
