Abstract
Methods: It was a hospital based study in which 214 patients were included who were above 19 years of age. All patients underwent detailed ocular examination including presenting visual acuity, slit lamp examination, fundus examination and hematological and radio-logical investigations.
Results: Out of 214 patients, 138 were males and 76 females. The age group ranged from 20 to 66 years of age. Most of the eye injuries resulted from road traffic accident followed by physical assault and occupational injuries. A favorable visual outcome was noted with closed globe injuries as compared with open globe injuries. Final visual acuity of 6/12 or better was observed in only 21% of injured eyes.
Conclusion: Ocular trauma is a major public health problem which should be attended at the earliest in order to prevent grave visual complications.
