FP2158 : Surge of ophthalmic emergency during COVID lockdown

Abstract
Introduction:Sudden halt of Indians lead to many detrimental health issue and one of them was ocular emergency. Corneal tear , lid laceration, canalicular tear, traumatic cataract with glaucoma and penetrating injury with retained IOFB were in surge during lockdown. Kids imitating TV series and character, indoor playing of outdoor games and violence were among the top of second phase of lockdown. Material: We treated 29 cases of ocular trauma from 15 april to 31 may 2020. Age distribution was 3 to 35years, in which only four were female. Average duration of presentation was 3 to 15 days. As a complete ophthalmic institute, required treatment was given. Result: On an average our institute see 5-7 ocular trauma cases in a month. During this lockdown there was drastic increase in the number of cases on ocular trauma. Conclusuion: Inspite of drastic decrease in RTA, surge in ocular trauma led us to conclude that violence and unsupervised kid can add good number of ocular emergency.
