Abstract

Purpose: Cholesterol crystals are golden-brown refractile particles seen in Synchysis scintillans after resolution of chronic vitreous haemorrhage. Method: A 20 year boy presented with chief complains of Diminution of Vision and whitish opacity in black part of right eye. He had a positive history of trauma in same eye 1 year back.The patient underwent detailed ophthalmic examination including Visual Acuity, Slit Lamp examination, Fundus Examination and USG B-SCAN.

Results:On detailed slit lamp examination affected eye had golden crystals in anterior chamber which settled inferiorly and moved with extraocular movements. Rest details of right eye were barely visible. Visual acuity in affected eye was PL negative and was in hypotony. Left eye was within normal limit.

Conclusion: After complete examination the boy was diagnosed as right eye Synchysis Scintillans in Anterior Chamber which is rarely seen. Early detection and necessary intervention is needed for better visual outcome.
