Abstract
Methods: All patients who attended emergency department were enrolled for study from 1st April to 31st May 2020.All underwent detailed ocular examination including slit lamp and fundus evaluation.
Results: A total of 96 patients reported in emergency among which 74 were males and rest females.Age of patients ranged from 5mts to 65 years.Around 27 (28.72%) had open globe injuries which required hospitalization.Around 18 patients suffered from physical assault, 15 from injury with wooden stick, 12 during play and 8 from road traffic accidents.Majority 47.91% of patients had periorbital swelling,19 had corneal tear,14 had corneal foreign body,6 had anterior uveitis and 5 had traumatic cataract.Fourteen patients underwent surgery.
Conclusion:Ophthalmic emergencies must be attended at earliest in order to prevent grave visual complications.
