Abstract
Methods: It is a prospective interventional study of 26 patients(15 males,11 females) between 27-65 years with microbiologically proven keratomycosis not responding to conventional topical therapy were given intrastromal voriconazole(50µg/0.1mL) and followed up weekly for 6 weeks.
Result: Out of the 26 patients, infiltration was found in 11 and hypopyon in 5 of them. The mean sizes of infiltration and ulcer measured in longest axis were (5.48±1.28)mm and (3.44±1.05)mm respectively. Intrastromal voriconazole injection helped to resolve the infection by shrinking ulcer size(n=19,73.07%), decreasing ulcer margin infiltrate(n=10,90.9%) and reducing vertical hypopyon height(n=3,60%). Visual acuity was not significantly improved.
Conclusion: Intrastromal voriconazole(50 µg/0.1 mL) is secure and effective for treating deep recalcitrant keratomycosis.
