Abstract
Purpose:Infective keratitis is a commonly caused by bacteria and filamentous fungi. We present a case series ofrefractory infective keratitis. Methods:A study of clinical and micro-biological profile ofseven patients withinfective keratitis refractory to conventional treatment was undertaken. Results: Microbiological profile revealed Burkholderiacenocepacia, Corynebacterium amycolatum, Bacillispumilus, multidrug resistantPseudomonas sp. and Staphylococccus sp.to be the bacteria causing keratitis in five cases. Multidrug resistant Fusarium solani, Scytalidium sp. and Exophialaspiniferawere fungi found to be causing keratitis in three cases. Patients were treated according to the culture and sensitivity obtained. Four patients showed considerable improvement while the rest had mixed results. Conclusion:Incidence of rare organisms causing vision threatening keratitis refractory to conventional treatment is on the rise, hence these organisms may be considered in cases of refractory keratitis.
