Abstract
METHODS:It is a pilot prospective study.40 patients having diabetic macular edema included in study. Some patients were treated with intravitreal ranibizumab and some were treated with peripheral panretinal photocoagulation with modified intravitreal injections as needed and being followed up for 2 years.BCVA and central macular thickness noted before and after treatment.
RESULTS:When PPRP was administered, the number of anti-VEGF injections reduced markedly.Mean initial and final CMT was 460 in injection only group.Mean initial and final CMT in PPRP group were 458 and 352.8respectively.Mean final BCVA in injection group was 6/24 and in PRPP group it was 6/36.
CONCLUSION:PPRPreduces the no of anti-VEGF injections which lowers the cost of t/t.It also helped persistent macular edema without vitreous traction.PRPP is helpful in sick, difficult to ambulate patients.
