Abstract
Hospital based observational cross sectional study of 144patients who attended glaucoma opd over 4months was conducted.Blindness was defined as visualacuity less than or equal to3/60.Patients with visual impairment attributed to primary glaucoma were considered.Data analysis of144primary glaucoma patients showed that107(74.30%)were primary angle closure disease(PACD)and 30(20.83%)were POAG&7(4.86%) were juvenile open angle glaucoma (JOAG).5.61% of PACD presented with acute symptoms.In PACD males were33.64%& females66.36%.In POAG males were60%&females40%.In PACD B/L blind were15.84%&unilateral(U/L)blind 37.62%.In POAG B/L blind10%&U/L blind33.33%.Mean age at presentation in PACD was54.29yrs&in POAG was51.91yrs.Male dominance was seen in POAG&JOAG.This study showed increasing age&IOP as common risk factor in bothPACD&POAG.Females were more frequently effected in PACD.Most of the PACD remained asymptomatic.Blindness was more in PACD thanPOAG at presentation.83.3% were unaware of disease.
