Abstract
To determine the effect on IOP after insertion and removal of silicone oil in vitreoretinal surgeries.
Methods:
A retrospective study of patients who had undergone silicone oil insertion and removal in surgical repair of primary pars plana vitrectomy between 2009 to 2019.
Results:
Out of 310 patients, 243 (78.4%) were male and 67 (21.6%) were female. The mean IOP at baseline, at day 1, week 1and week 5 after silicone oil insertion was 13.4±7.7, 17.9±7.8, 17.2±8.1, 16.8±7.9 as compared to 13.7±4.5, 15.1±5.7, and 15.8±7.1 mm Hg after day 1, week 1 and week 5 after silicone oil removal respectively. The mean best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at baseline, at day 1, week 1, week 5 after SOI was 1.6±0.8, 1.9±0.6, 1.5±0.6, 1.2±0.6 as compared to, 0.5±0.9, 1.3±0.6, and 1.1±0.7 after day 1, week 1 and week 5 after silicone oil removal respectively.
Conclusion:
This study shows increase in IOP immediately after silicone oil insertion and a decrease of IOP after silicone oil removal.
