Abstract
Material and Methods-This is a hospital base cross-sectional study.A total of 800 patients,age 20 years and above were administered a questionnaire after written informed consent to assess glaucoma knowledge and awareness.
Patients administered pretested structured questionnaire to collect both descriptive and demographic data. Patients heard of glaucoma even before were said to be aware and patients having some understanding of glaucoma were defined as knowledgeable. Appropriate statistical tests were used.
Result- Out of 800 patients in study only 4.4% patients were aware of glaucoma, 3.4% had some knowledge about glaucoma. Determinants of glaucoma awareness are higher levels of education, glaucoma and family history of glaucoma.
Conclusion-Knowledge and awareness about glaucoma in general public is very low, need to increase by different public awareness measures.
