Abstract
Photopic negative response(PhNR), is a component of ERG,which indicates retinal ganglion cell activity. A 33 year old, male patient presented for regular eye checkup. He had strong family history of glaucoma. On examination, BCVA was 6/6,N6 in both eyes.Slit lamp examination showed BE anterior segment WNL. IOP was OD 12 mm Hg and OS 10 mm Hg. Gonioscopy showed open angles in both eyes.Posterior segment OD CDR was 0.8 and OS 0.8,rest was WNL. Visual fields by Humphrey field analyser was normal in both eyes.RNFL analysis and Macular ganglion cell complex analysis was normal in both eyes. Focal ERG in RE showed reduced PhNR amplitude wave and reduced P72/b wave ratio.LE ERG was normal. Patient was advised frequent followups for monitoring intraocular pressure, visual fields, OCT scans and electrophysiological tests, considering strong family history of glaucoma. Conclusion:PhNR serves as an added tool for identifying retinal ganglion cell activity in patients who are at risk of glaucoma.
