Abstract

A case report of a 32 yr old male patient presenting with sudden onset loss of vision, an ERG was not possible in a peripheral centre but OCT was done and showed increased retinal nerve fibre layer thickness. Based on clinical evaluation a diagnosis of optic neuritis made and the patient treated with intravenous methyl prednisolone followed by oral steroids as per ONTT regime.

The patient had consistent recovery and regained complete vision in a matter of 4 wks and all this improvement could be recorded by OCT RNFL analysis.

Such serial OCT records of RNFL demonstrating the recovery of inflammation of retinal nerves is never reported before.

The added advantage being ability to show to the patient his own recovery in a scientific manner. This also helps in comparing the data in case there is recurrence of optic neuritis
