Abstract

Case Presentation: A 28yrs old male patient presented with persistent headache for 2 yrs, peripheral visual loss and history of occasional blindness for 4 months. On examination, patient was mesomorphic in built, peripheral visual loss was evident on perimetry, bilateral established disc edema with no ophthalmoplegia or loss in central vision. Neuroimaging was within normal limits. CSF analysis was normal with elevated opening pressure. Complete blood count revealed raised platelet count with rest of the parameters being normal. The patient was treated medically as well as surgically for raised intracranial pressure, but the finding of thrombocytosis was missed. The patient however lost his vision.

Conclusion: IIH is rarely associated with myeloproliferative disorder. If thrombocytosis was diagnosed at early stage and was evaluated further, there is a possibility that patient’s vision could have been saved.
