Abstract
Ophthalmomyiasis is an infestation of human eye with dipterous fly larvae. Oestrus ovis is the most common cause of human myiasis. As per our knowledge, there is no documented case report regarding ophthalmomyiasis secondary to infected scleral buckle. Hence, we report a rare case of a 68 years old female shepherd. Patient presented with acute symptoms of severe pain, watering, pricking sensation in her right eye since 10 days and foul smelling blood stained discharge since a day. Prompt diagnosis and mechanical removal of sixty live larvae from the right eye under topical anaesthesia was done. Symptomatic treatment and a dose of ivermectin was given. Patient was advised to maintain good personal hygiene and followup regularly. Special care should be given to the medically and physically compromised patients. As prevention is better than cure, understanding and accurate management of such cases are important to avert dreadful complications such as internal ophthalmomyiasis.
