Abstract
ABSTRACT : A 24-year-old male presented with one year history of progressive painless proptosis and orbital fullness. On MRI, CSF intensity cystic lesion was noted anterior to temporal lobe, causing compression of left greater wing of sphenoid, lateral wall of orbit and left temporal lobe. A diagnosis of intradiploic arachnoid cyst was made. This entity was benign and other neurologic signs or symptoms were absent. Our patient was observed without surgical intervention. Arachnoid cysts in the middle cranial fossa have the potential to result in clinically significant proptosis due to bone remodeling of orbital walls. Patients with unexplained proptosis should be evaluated with T2-weighted MRIs to establish the presence of an arachnoid cyst and CT scans to detect bone remodelling.
