Abstract

Purpose: Bear bite injuries are common these days owing to deforestation. Among animal attack injuries, bear attacks amounts to almost half of cases.Usually they attack in remote areas which lack adequate medical services. Methods: A young male presented with bear attack over facial region. After maintaining his vitals, he underwent detailed systemic and radiological investigations.

Results: He suffered with extensive degloving injury of scalp, multiple fractures involving facial bones and multiple lacerations all over body. His left eye ball was completely out of socket. He was given tetanus prophylaxis and anti-rabies injection. Wound was washed thoroughly and sutured under cover of intravenous antibiotics. Left eye ball was enucleated. Conclusion: Bear injuries should be addressed by multimodality approach at the earliest in order to provide better aesthetic and functional outcome.
