Abstract
Method: A retrospective cohort study was done of patients who underwent vitrectomy for nucleus drop. Data was collected from hospital emr. Patients were grouped based on: traumatic, iatrogenic, spontaneous, and congenital.
Results: Our cohort consisted of 169 eyes. The mean age of patients was 55.36± 15.7 years.Of169 patients, 107(63.3%) were men and 62(33.7%) were women. Of 169 patients, 44(26%) were traumatic nucleus drop and 125 (74%) developed spontaneous nucleus drop following cataract surgeries. In the iatrogenic group, 33(38.56%) patients developed nucleus drop during phacoemulsification and 59(62.9%) after SICS.
Conclusion: The visual outcome following corrective vitrectomy for nucleus drop may be satisfactory if managed well;no significant difference in the outcome was noted based on the aetiology
