Abstract
PURPOSE: To evaluate the role of umbilical cord blood serum therapy in ocular allergy.
METHODS: Prospective randomized clinical study in 40 eyes of ocular allergy i.e. 40 eyes of ocular allergy were randomised into two groups. Group I (control) was given autologous serum(AS) for treatment of ocular allergy. Group II (test) was given umbilical cord blood serum (UCBS). Outcome parameters evaluated within the group and in between groups were Visual acuity, Eye sensation score and Improvement in severity. Statistical analysis was done using Wilcoxon signed rank test, kruskal wallis test, Z-test and chi square test with significance level (p≤0.05). Patients were followed up at day7, month 1 and at month 3.
RESULTS: In Ocular allergy, group II showed significant improvement in visual acuity (0.06±0.02) at 1month, ESS at day 7.
CONCLUSIONS: Umbilical cord blood serum therapy is more effective than autologous serum eye drops in ocular allergy.
