Abstract
Purpose: To study the demographic and clinical profile of primary angle closure disease (PACD) in a rural based tertiary care center of Central India.
Methods: A prospective cross-sectional study of 244 patients (470 eyes) diagnosed with PACD based on the ISGEO classification was done from January 2015 to December 2016. The outcome measures were age, sex, subtypes of PACD, and intraocular pressure (IOP), and management.
Results: Primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) was the most common subtype (46.80%) followed by primary angle closure (PAC) (29.78 %) and primary angle closure suspect PACS (23.40%). Mean IOP at presentation was highest for PAC (29.10 ±8.75) followed by PACG (21.89 ±4.84) and PACS (15.46 ±3.84) and were significantly different (P <0.001). Conclusion: This study represents the pattern of angle closure in a rural hospital. Nearly 1/3rd of patient presented with acute angle closure attack which required an immediate management.
