Abstract
Aim: Correlation of PRVEP changes and grades of proptosis. Method: Study of 40 patients with proptosis, graded by Hertel’s exophthalmometer. Correlation of PRVEP changes in various grades of proptosis was studied. Results: PRVEP P-100 latency was delayed with increasing grades of proptosis i.e Grade1(107.442 ± 6.0 ms), Grade2(122.69 ± 13.18ms) & Grade3(143.00 ±7.33ms)( p=0.0001). N70-P100 amplitude decreased with increasing grades of proptosis i.e Grade1(5.60± 2.5mcV), Grade2(3.86 ±1.13mcV) and Grade3(2.02± 1.36mcV)( p=0.0001).Hence, +ve correlation of P100 latency and proptosis was documented i.e(y =0.818x+ 1.8979, R2=0.5547)(r=0.55,P=0.0001) and a negative correlation of N70-P100 amplitude and proptosis was documented(y=0.6877x+25.793,R2=0.179)(r=0.68,P=0.0001). Conclusion: Increase in grades of proptosis results increased delay in PRVEP P-100 latency and decreased N70-P100 amplitude. Hence, PRVEP is important tool for diagnosis of optic nerve involvement in proptosis.
