Abstract
AIM
To study the vascular pattern, FFA predictors of progression and vascular changes after treatment in ROP babies.
METHOD
The Retcam 3 was used to perform fluorescein angiography in 50 infant diagnosed with ROP. Repeat FFA was done to evaluate vascular pattern and changes in progressive disease and at 6 months of age after treatment.
RESULTS
FFA enabled proper visualization of the retinal vessels , which predicted disease progression to Type 1 ROP in premature babies. FFA done 6 months after laser treatment showed micro aneurysms, skip areas of laser, macular hypoplasia, in addition to regressed ROP, and complete vascularization of retina. The vascular abnormalities like popcorn lesion, artero-venous shunts and tangles were early markers of progression of disease requiring treatment.
Conclusion :Early and accurate diagnosis with prediction of progression of disease in form of vascular changes picked on FFA can guide in prompt management and decreased unfavourable outcome of ROP.
