Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate RNFL & GCL thickness in patients with non glaucomatous optic neuropathies.Method:51 eyes of 40 patients, age group18-65 yrs with non-glaucomatous optic neuropathies were included.Based on disc changes, average RNFL & GCL thickness were evaluated by SD-OCT in disc edema, disc pallor, fellow eyes(unilateral cases) & compared.Result:Mean±SD value of average RNFL thickness in disc edema(24 eyes),disc pallor(27
eyes),fellow eyes(29 eyes) were 225.66±92.45,67.55±21.13,91.89±12.64µm (p<0.0001)& average GCL thickness mean±SD in disc edema, disc pallor, fellow eyes were 67.87±19.99, 63.33±14.39,82.58±8.21µm(p<0.0001) respectively. Conclusion:Quantification of RNFL & GCL thickness by OCT provides indirect measure of axonal & neuronal loss in anterior visual pathways.RNFL thickness varies depends on type of neuropathy.GCC loss is hallmark of optic neuropathy & should be monitored for early detection & prognosis in non glaucomatous optic neuropathies patients. Keywords:OCT,RNFL,GCL
