Abstract
Poorly managed corneal emergencies are an important cause of blindness, particularly in developing countries. Early and appropriate intervention can be the defining factor in the long term visual and cosmetic outcome of that concerned eye. This IC shall aim to discuss these in a step by step manner, shelling out guidelines which will be particularly beneficial to those where access to a cornea surgeon may be difficult. From simple/complex foreign bodies to recurrent abrasions/epithelial defect, to the principles & techniques of managing different cornel-scleral tears in a primary sitting, to perforated corneal ulcers, to the catastrophic effects of chemical injuries, experts shall lay out their recommendations in a simplified and concise manner. We will also explain every emergency related to refractive surgeries – from its diagnosis to management.
As an icing on the cake, we shall also discuss the medico-legal aspects related to it.
