Abstract
Hypertension in pregnancy includes gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, eclampsia, preeclampsia superimposed on chronic hypertension and chronic hypertension due to any cause. This require prompt diagnosis and management. The study deals with pregnancy complicated by hypertension which includes 1st 3 group.Analysis of retinal thickness in these patients and normal pregnant controls were done.Group1-patients diagnosed with hypertension after 20 weeks of pregnancy.Group 2-normal pregnant subjects.Detailed evaluation including SD-OCT was done.OCT macula & ganglion cell+inner plexiform layer thickness were compared. Average retinal thickness increased in both group but the increase was more in group1.Maximal thickness was in the nasal inner quadrant and macular central subfield in group1 whereas in superior outer, and temporal outer quadrants in group2.It was concluded that SD-OCT can be used for early detection of retinal changes in gestational hypertension before clinical signs appear.
