Abstract
Challenging situations can be potentially vision threatening to the patient. Conditions like dense brown cataracts, traumatic cataracts and posterior capsular rupture can increase the risks not only during the surgery but also in the postoperative recovery period.Complications like nucleus drop, posterior capsular rent, zonular dialysis, wound burns etc.& postoperative complications like cystoid macular edema, retinal detachment, postoperative inflammation, corneal decompensation, decentred intraocular lenses, etc may occur. Hence, extra precautions need to be taken to minimize the potential complications & to facilitate smoother visual rehabilitation of the patient. In this course, we will strive to present various such demanding situations & also explore newer techniques like FLACS taking a scientific approach. Discussions would include surgical management of the given situation, weighing the other options available & the possible outcomes.
