Abstract

Phacoemulsification done in a patient with central dense pre-existing corneal opacity .

Introduction- A 55 year old male patient came with diminution of vision in both eyes since childhood . He gives of history of chicken pox infection in childhood which remained untreated for many years , followed by which he developed central corneal opacity in left eye and total leucomatous opacity in right eye . Visual acuity for distant vision by snellens chart was PL+ PR accurate in all quadrants in OD and CF 2 metres in OS . On slit lamp examination patient was found to have Nuclear sclerosis grade 2 in left eye , so was advised cataract extraction under guarded visual prognosis in left eye.

Design – Following Video illustrate phacoemulsification with IOL surgery in one such patient with dense central corneal opacity .

Results-Following phacoemulsification , post operatively visual acuity was 6/36 in left eye, inspite of central dense pre-existing corneal opacity.
