Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome (IFIS) has become a major concern for cataract surgeons.It is characterised by a triad of signs that occur during surgery – iris billowing,iris prolapse and intraoperative miosis despite standard preoperative pharmacologic measures.Its association with systemic Tamsulosin and other Alpha 1 adrenoceptor antagonists (Alpha blockers) is well established.This video will demonstrate the unexpected fast and furious behaviour of iris tissue during the course of surgery and will discuss the preoperative and intraoperative measures used to overcome such dreadful complications.
