Abstract
Results:The mean IOL power was 11.55D (-3.0 to +14.0D).Mean Post-operative BCVA at 6 months was 0.04 ± 0.26 with a p value=0.001. 78.57% had refraction within 0.50D and 21.43% had more than 0.50D.Postoperative surprises and intraoperative complications are common in high myopes but in our study there were no surprises. We had 3(4.28 %) patients who needed retinal photocoagulation therapy for retinal tears.Axial length and visual outcome showed a negative correlation.2 patients had poor vision due to pre-existing macular thinning and atrophic patch.
Conclusion :Good visual outcome with minimal complication can be achieved by cataract surgery in highly myopic patients. Poor visual prognosis was associated with longer axial length and myopic retinal degeneration.
