Abstract
AIM: To compare the accuracy of Kane formula with Barrett Universal II using non-contact biometry and optimised lens constants
MATERIALS & METHODS: A retrospective case review was performed from patients having cataract surgery with Abott Sensar AR40e implantation over 1 year in a tertiary centre. The predicted refractive outcome for each patient & formula was compared with the actual refractive outcome. Mean absolute error was calculated for both groups and compared.
RESULTS: There were 112 eyes. The mean absolute error for Barrett formula was 0.34±0.41 and for Kane formula was 0.35±0.40. The difference between the groups was statistically insignificant (p=0.91)
CONCLUSION: In our series Kane formula has not been proved superior to Barrett Universal II. The postoperative refractive outcome of both formulas were good and comparable.
