Abstract
Cataracts are one of the most common complications in patients with chronic uveitis.10 patients of anterior uveitis with cataract were selected with M:F ratio of 1:1. Post control of inflammation for 3 months, phacoemulsification with foldable IOL was planned. In the present series, 7 cases (70%) were of idiopathic type, while 1 case each was of Ankylosing spondylitis, Fuchs heterochromic iridocyclitis and JRA. On 1st post-operative day, 3 cases (30%) developed excessive anterior chamber reaction while the other 7 cases (70%) had usual expected anterior chamber reactions. Recurrence of uveitis was most commonly seen in as many as 4 cases, while 3 cases had striate keratopathy, 1 case developed hyphaema & 1 case of raised IOP. The most common late post -operative complication seen on the 45th post- op. day was pigments over the IOL surface in 3 cases, Posterior synechia in 1case, PCO in 1 case, Vitreous Haze developed in 1 case & cystoid macular edema was seen in only 1 case.
