Abstract
Elective surgeries like cataract extraction were stopped during covid 19 lockdown, including camp surgeries in our tertiary care hospital.
Aims
To study changing trend in presentation of cataract cases, particularly as phacolytic glaucoma during lockdown.
Methodology
Retrospective case series study of 3 months duration from 23 March to 23 June 2020 and comparing with three months prior to lockdown. All patients with provisional diagnosis of phacolytic glaucoma were included.
Results
A total of 42 cases were diagnosed as phacolytic glaucoma during study period , compared to just 14 cases 3 months prior to this. 54%(23) of these were on month of June alone.
Gender distribution
M:F=1:1.3.
Age wise distribution
< 60yr: 3(7%) 60-70yr: 14(33%) 70-80yr :21(50%) >80yr: 4(9.5%)
19 cases (45%) were Senile Mature cataract and 23 (55%) were hypermature cataract.
Conclusion
There was almost three fold increase in number of phacolytic glaucoma cases in our hospital during lockdown.
