Abstract
Methods –78 selected patients of ocular chemical burn injuries of various chemical industry of West Bengal were randomly divided into equal 3 groups. Group 1 and 2 received fresh amniotic membrane and lyophilised amniotic membrane respectively along with medical treatment provided in Group 3. Outcome is measured by improvement of visual acuity, Symptomatic relief and improvement of corneal surface anatomy.
Results – Visual acuity improved was best in Group 1 patients (P = 0.018). Post-operative visual discomfort has reduced most in Group 1 (P = 0.004, f = 6.71). Other parameters also better in Group 1 rather than other groups.
Conclusion – Freshly prepaired AMG with medical management has better post-operative outcome and less complications.
