Abstract

Purpose–to study ocular toxic effects&result of treatment after accidental injury by calotropis juice.

Method-15cases examined in one year.detailed s/l exam,VA,specular,IOP measured(nct). Thorough washing with ringers lactate with application of dexamethasone e/d&oint,carboxy methylcellulose drop,vitApalmitate and carbomerophthalmic gel given .Anti glaucoma &cycloplegics given SOS. Pts were observed at 24hr,3 day,1st,2nd week,1st2nd3rdmonth.

Observation- 9F 6M,age>50 in all,12cases in feb-march 3 in aug.bcva>6/60 (5)6/60 to 3/60 (6) <3/60 (4)cases, unilateral(10), bilateral(5)Conjunctival congestion15,pain10,ciliary congetion4,corneal epithelial defect5,stromal edema15,DM folds10,raised IOP3. After 1wk conj congetion3,DM fold2,bcva improved , endothelial cell reduced in 2case. After 1&3mth only reduced endothelial cell persisted . Concl-calotropis cause painful sudden diminution of vision ,less damage to epithelium, more to endothelium.
