Abstract
Microsporidial keratitis is a rare cause of stromal keratitis. We present a series of four cases of microsporidial keratitis from a single centre successfully treated with topical voriconazole . Patients were reviewed retrospectively for clinical and microbiologic data. The presence of microsporidia was confirmed by special stains on corneal scrapings. All patients were immunocompetent with a preceding history of trauma in two. All patients presented with unilateral, small, persisting deep stromal infiltrate in the cornea, which were not responding to conventional antimicrobial treatment. After treatment with topical voriconazole for around four to six weeks, all patients had complete resolution with no recurrence for over 12 months of follow-up. To conclude ,microsporidia should be suspected in chronic culture-negative stromal keratitis and it can be successfully treated with topical voriconazole.
