Abstract
METHODS: This prospective study included 50 patients of corneal tear. Pts were divided into 2 groups according to surgical timing ≤48hrs(early) & >48hrs (delayed). Preoperative visual acuity, slit lamp examination and B-scan was done. Patients were examined post-operative on day 1, week1, 4 and 8.
RESULTS: Out of 50 patients(38 M &12 F) with mean age 35.19±9.8. 35 underwent early corneal repair and 15 had delayed repair. Visual prognosis was significant (p value≤ 0.05) in early corneal repair as compared to delayed corneal repair. Visual acuity of ≥6/36 was gained in 48% peripheral tear,36% mid-peripheral & 16% cental corneal tear.
CONCLUSION: Early corneal tear repair was more effective than delayed in relation to visual outcome.Visual outcome was better in patients having corneal tear away from visual axis as compared to corneal tear in visual axis.
