Abstract
Introduction. Fungal corneal are common in tropical region like India. Aim: To study the change in fungal corneal ulcer size after treatment with topical voriconazole and natamycin. Materials & methods: The study was conducted in a tertiary care hospital from Jan 19 to Dec 19 with a microbiological sample of 40 patients. Results: 40 patients were assigned to two groups of 20 each, receiving either topical voriconazole or natamycin. The mean ulcer size in voriconazole group was 4.46*3.98mm and 4.39*4.01mm in Natamycin group. At 4 wks follow up, mean ulcer size was 0.44*0.28mm in voriconazole group and 0.40*0.27 mm in Natamycin group. Conclusion: Although the Natamycin group exhibited greater improvement in ulcer size , the difference was not statistically significant. (P value for longest diameter 0.763 and longest perpendicular diameter0.92. Success rate of both topical voriconazole and topical natamycin is comparable.
